Application and Admission to the Neuroscience Graduate Schools

Our International Graduate Schools in Neurosciences are based at the Faculty of Biosciences of the University of Heidelberg that offers the successful candidate a doctorate in natural sciences (Dr. rer. nat.). PhD-projects whose main technical focus lies in the areas of Biochemistry/Biophysics, Bioinformatics/Computational Biology or Cell- and Molecular Biology are therefore handled by the Faculty of Biosciences. PhD-projects with primarily clinical focus are instead handled by the Medical Faculty offering a doctorate in medicine (Dr. med. or Dr. sc. hum.).

  • Candidates wishing to apply for an advertized PhD position that is based in the Faculty of Biosciences can use the faculties online application platform offered by the HBIGS-Center. Your uploaded documents will be verified and you will eventually be invited for an interview offering you the possibility to visit your lab(s) of interest. In addition the HBIGS-Center takes care of your registration formalities with the Faculty of Biosciences and the Graduate Program of your choice.

  • Candidates can also apply to open PhD positions individually by addressing their application directly to the lab of interest. Upon acceptance by the lab head you will have to apply for Registration as PhD-Student with the Faculty of Biosciences (or other Faculty) before you start your work. This is required in order to allow them to evaluate your academic qualifications. You then have to enroll into the Graduate Program of your choice.
