General research interests and goals:
Our group is situated at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing and concentrates on the efficient and accurate solution of partial differential equations, high-performance computing and applications in flows in porous media and computational neuroscience. Although these application domains are quite different many of the computational techniques can be transferred between application areas. Our main work areas are:
• Accurate discretization schemes (such as discontinuous Galerkin methods), adaptive mesh refinement and efficient solution of the arising algebraic equations (e.g. algebraic multigrid methods).
• Implementation of these methods in a general purpose software framework DUNE (see http://www.dune-project.org). Through the use of generic programming techniques high flexibility can be achieved without a large performance penalty.
